What to Expect

Welcome To Ken Caryl Spine and Sport! If you have never been to our office before we hope the information on this page will help prepare you for your first visit. I think you may find that a visit to our office will be quite different than any of your other prior experiences.

First, we do not offer a stuffy or sterile environment. We hope that our office allows you to feel comfortable and relaxed.

All new patients will undergo movement screenings and assessments. You should wear athletic clothing that allows you to move and also allows the doctor you see you move.

Many of the treatments offered require skin contact. Deep tissue laser, Active Release Techniques and kinesiotaping all need to have the treatment area exposed. Keep this in mind when dressing for your appointments.

You will be assessed and treated on your first visit.

Our office visits take longer—because we do more.  Initial visits are 60-90 minutes.  Follow-up visits can be 20-40 minutes.  Any visit in our office may involve any of the following: movement analysis, chiropractic adjustments, active release techniques, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilizations, laser therapy  exercise prescription and/or review.

We will try to schedule and adhere to that schedule to the best of our ability.  We ask the same of you.  If you are late for your scheduled appointment it will take away from the amount of time we have together to get stuff done.

We are a fee for service office.  We do not provide an insurance billing service.  We can easily provide you with a Superbill which is a single sheet of paper that you give to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

What makes you different than the other chiropractors that I’ve seen before?

First, we assess each patient with a movement screen. It provides great insight as to what area of the body needs help first—not just where the pain is. Then we treat muscles, joints and nerves. We will always prescribe some home activities to help the healing progress more quickly.

Dr. J listens intently to my concerns and then does an outstanding job in determining what the proper treatment would be, both for now and in the future. I would highly recommend going to Ken Caryl Spine and Sport for any of your spine/sport injuries

Do you just treat back pain?

Our focus is on the whole body. If a patient presents with chronic low back pain, and we discover that it is coming from their hip and knee, we will treat the pain in the spine and also fix the hip and the knee.

How long does it take?

New patient visits will take approximately 75 minutes. Follow up visits are approximately 30 minutes. Wellness visits or ‘Tune-ups’ take about 10 minutes.

Do you take insurance?

In order to focus on our patients and the care that they need, we have chosen to remain out-of-network with all health insurance carriers. If you would like to bill your insurance for reimbursable fees, we can provide you with a superbill at the end of your care with instructions for reimbursement. Your insurance company will pay you directly. We accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and flex spending accounts. We will accept Personal Injury or auto injury cases on case by case basis.

My son was having a lot of knee pain after each soccer practice or game. The trainer told us it was probably a meniscus. After two sessions with Dr. Kurland his knee pain was gone. He even showed us how to tape it on our own.

How often before I feel better?

Every individual is obviously very different. Our goal is everyone to walk out of the office feeling better than when they walked in. Even our toughest cases see resolution within the four visits.
